3rd at Paul Ricard Testing went well, with the British driver setting the 3rd fastest time and first in class, giving everyone confidence going into qualifying and the race. Francisco, as per the new 2013 rules, qualified the car and did a fantastic job, setting pole in class.

The Portuguese driver started the race and did a great opening stint, maintaining position and setting a good, consistent pace. The plan was for both drivers to double stint, doing 2 hours each. After 1 hour 45 minutes it was clear the heat inside the car was too much and a change of driver was needed. Ben jumped in and immediately started doing quick times, maintaining the lead. After his first fuel stop the heat was also having an effect on the Northampton based driver and it wasn’t long before he too needed to get out of the number 10 Mosler. With radio communication issues he tried to stay in the car as long as possible and eventually came in with 45 minutes remaining, collapsing as he got out, and having to be rushed to the medical centre. Unperturbed, Francisco jumped back in to finish off a fantastic performance and bring the Escuela Española De Pilotos run machine home in 3rd.

Ben was happy with their first podium of the year, but frustrated with the “one that got away”. “That was a tough race with the heat. Both myself and Francisco struggled and it was not something we expected. I’ve not experienced heat exhaustion before and it certainly wasn’t a pleasant feeling! It’s a real shame, as I think we would have probably won that one had we not had to change the strategy so much with the heat issues we were having. That said, what a fantastic job by Francisco both in qualifying and the race, this podium is really down to his performance.”
