Disappointment after mechanical failure ends possible race winning form in Barcelona With the rules been changed since the pair raced in the Championship in 2012, it was now no longer possible for Ben to qualify the car, as he was rated by the championship as an “A” graded driver. Therefore despite the young Brit setting the 4th fastest time during the hour session, the duo eventually lined up 10th after a good performance by the Lisbon based Francisco.

All the team were confident going into the long 6 hour race, having displayed great pace on very old tyres during the pre-weekend test sessions. It wasn’t long before that confidence looked well placed, as after a good initial double stint by the quick Portuguese, Ben jumped in and it wasn’t long before they had a healthy lead. Unfortunately just after half distance disaster struck and a left rear wishbone failure effectively put them out of the running in terms of getting any kind of result. Some brilliant work from the Escuela Española de Pilotos mechanics got the number 10 Mosler back running again, and the team showed considerable pace in the latter stages in wet conditions, adding to their frustration at the result that had got away.

Ben was distraught afterwards “That is so hard to take. I think we really could have won that one, the car has been fantastically quick all weekend and Francisco was doing a great job too. In the wet at the end of the race the car was just fantastic. To lose it like that when you’re leading is tough. It’s just one of those things; there is nothing anyone could do about it.”
