Ben and Francisco are Spanish GT Champions Going into the weekend, the British/Portuguese pairing knew they needed one last good result to secure the Championship that they had battled for all year, against their team mates in the other Escuela Española de Pilotos run car.

Testing went well with the number 43 car on the pace in both the wet and dry session. The young Brit did a very wet qualifying 1, and was on pole with a good margin when the flag dropped signalling the end of the session. Francisco lined up for a dry qualifying 2 and drove well, finding extra pace from the test and lining up 3rd on the grid.

Going into race 1 both drivers knew it would be better if they could get the Championship wrapped up, to avoid a tense final race on the Sunday. Ben started and was able to maintain a good pace and give Francisco the car in the lead. As all the handicaps took affect from the pitstops, the red Ginetta emerged in 2nd place, where it would remain until the finish and give the pairing their first Championship together.

Going into race 2 the pressure was off both drivers and it was all about going for a win and ending the season on a high. As the pitstops came around the number 43 car was up to 2nd and the Silverstone based driver jumped in. Despite some quick laps and honing in on the leaders, time ran out and another good 2nd place was the result.

Ben was delighted afterwards. “It’s been a brilliant year. Francisco has done a great job, Escuela Española de Pilotos have run the car faultlessly all year and it just couldn’t have gone any better. We haven’t had any mechanical problems at all from the start to the end of the season and neither driver has gone off, so we’ve always scored as many points as possible, which is how you win Championships. I’m really happy, it’s mine and Francisco’s first GT Championship win and the whole season has been a lot of fun. I can’t thank everyone enough.”
