A Win And A 2nd In Jerez Extends Benís Championship Lead With 1 Round Remaining Testing went well and the number 43 car seemed more or less on the pace in both 1 hour sessions. Ben did qualifying 1 and ended the 20 minute session 2nd on the grid. Francisco was next up and did well to claim 3rd spot for race 2.

Race 1 was all decided at the start. The young British charger went into the lead as the pole man and championship rival struggled with a mechanical problem that would eventually end their race. Good, consistent laps by both drivers gave them a great victory at the end of the 55-minute race, as well as a big haul of championship points.

After what had happened in race 1, race 2 was all about finishing and bringing home more valuable points for their championship challenge. The Portuguese driver started this time. After a brief scare with an over ambitious Ferrari at turn 1, he drove well throughout his stint before bringing the Ginetta G50 in for itís mandatory driver change. After all the pitstop handicaps, Ben rejoined in 3rd, but had set his sights on catching the Aston Martin in 2nd. Reeling quick laps off, lap after lap, he overcame the deficit to bring home a well-deserved 2nd place.

Ben was very happy with how the weekend went. ďItís been a great weekend as far as the championship is concerned. Itís not nice seeing your rivals and team mates having mechanical problems, and obviously youíd prefer to beat them on the track, but at this stage of the season I think we just to have to be pleased with every point we can get. I was a bit disappointed with my own performance in qualifying, but both races went as well as we could have possibly hoped for. Itís going to be a nervy weekend at the Algarve. We need one 3rd place from 2 races, but having been involved in motorsport for a long time now, I know itís never as easy as that. Iím sure itís going to be an exciting end to the championship, and I just hope we can get the job done at the last round.Ē
