Japanese Formula 3 Championship Motegi May 19th/20th 2007 ThreeBond's current driver Marko Asmer is also racing in and leading the British Formula 3 Championship. Due to a clash of schedules he was unable to make the Motegi race, so the team asked Ben to fill in. With no prior testing, there was only 2 hours to learn the circuit, re familiarise himself with Formula 3 and the Bridgestone tyres used. It was a difficult task. Therefore to more-or-less match Asmer's performances in earlier rounds was a remarkable achievement.

However, it didn't start too well. In testing Ben struggled to get on the pace in the short time available..

After some head scratching overnight, qualifying went considerably better - 7th in the first and, more importantly only 0.7 from pole, and 8th in the second, in both cases ahead of his team-mate.

Overtaking is difficult at Motegi and so a poor start in the first race left him 8th. Although he was faster than 7th place Sekiguchi, he was unable to get past.

The second race started better and the ThreeBond car was up to sixth by the first bend. From there to the flag another battle with Sekiguchi, who was again in 7th, raged to the flag. This time it was resolved in Ben's favour.

Ben was pleased with the weekend's results. "Overall it was a fantastic experience. It was always going to be a tough weekend with so little preparation, but I think under the circumstances it went as well as I could have hoped. I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in the ThreeBond team for all their help over the weekend."
