Ben Clucas Racing

Monza September 29th/30th

Ben enjoyed his outing at Silverstone a lot, and so the possibility of racing a Caterham again, this time in the Eurocup at Monza - one of his favourite circuits - was impossible to resist. Two convincing wins were the result.

Testing and qualifying went very well . A fairly consistent advantage of over a second is, on the face of it a big advantage. However, slipstreaming can give even bigger gains, so a win was by no means assured.

The first race started well, Ben leading out of the first chicane. He and Ted Murray then started to pull an advantage over the rest of the field, the lead exchanging between the two. Then, going into Parabolica on lap 4 Murray outbraked himself under yellow flags and left the circuit (and was subsequently black flagged) which allowed Ben to break the tow and pull out an increasing advantage. At the flag the lead from dezille Butler and Harrington was 7 seconds.

The second race also started well, but 3 cars slip streamed past by the end of the first lap. However Ben was able to regain the lead the following lap and was never headed to the flag, eventually pulling out nearly a 10 second margin as the pack squabbled. A tremendous tussle for positions 2 to 6 was only resolved on the line with Mike Cantillon second and Harrington third.
